Colin Rasmussen - Ph.D., LL.B
 
Colin obtained his Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine (Texas Medical Center - Houston TX) in 1988.  After post-doctoral training in the U.S. he joined the faculty of the Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology at the University of Alberta from 1991 - 1997, and later the Department of Anatomy at the University of Saskatchewan.  Colin’s research was in the area of intracellular signal transduction.  His research expertise includes molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and immunology, and he has authored over 20 peer-reviewed research articles.  For a complete CV click here.
 
After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in 2003, he articled and was an Associate with the Regina intellectual property firm of Furman & Kallio.  Colin also worked as an Associate in the intellectual property group at Bennett-Jones in Calgary, and later as a scientific advisor in the Intellectual Property & Media Group at McDermott, Will & Emery in Irvine, California.
 
Colin’s practice areas include Business Corporations, Administrative Law, Municipal Law, and Labour & Employment Law, and in particular Intellectual Property Law.  In addition to practicing law in Saskatchewan, Colin is a registered U.S. Patent Agent, and can directly represent clients before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.  Colin’s patent experience ranges from biotechnology, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, polymer chemistry, chemical processing, to mechanical inventions, and includes patent drafting and prosecution, infringement analysis, patent validity analysis, and freedom to operate opinions.
